Welcome to

BKS Iyengar Yoga Center

of

Honolulu

(formerly Manoa Yoga Center)

Yoga in the heart of beautiful Manoa Valley, Hawaii.

Join us and learn the ancient art and science of this gift called Yoga. We teach daily classes in our well-equipped studio. We welcome beginning and experienced students alike. Our teaching is based in the tradition of BKS Iyengar of Pune, India, widely regarded as one of the foremost living yogis of the modern world. At our Center, you will learn yoga in a safe and systematic manner and, at the same time, find fun, enjoyment and challenge in the process (read our article on Transformation through Yoga).

Shelley Choy and Ray Madigan, co-directors of the BKS Iyengar Yoga Center of Honolulu, are certified Iyengar yoga teachers. We are devoted to guiding and nurturing our students along their yogic paths.

Our Center offers classes and workshops in the asana (postures), pranayama (breathing) and sutra chanting (recitation and study of ancient texts). We also host visiting senior Iyengar teachers in valuable workshops. Our schedule of regular classes is complemented with special educational and social events that expose our students to the yoga philosophy in which our practice is rooted and to the lineage of Iyengar yoga.

Yoga is a spiritual discipline. When practiced with consistency and devotion, it can lead one to inner awareness through all dimensions of human existence---physical, mental and spiritual. Iyengar Yoga leads the student into a state of inner tranquility. This is achieved as the student applies his or her attention to the movements, actions and precise alignment of the postures, while maintaining an even flow of the breath. Through this practice, the mind becomes absorbed in the moment.

Students are taught to connect mind, body
and breath to move into a meditative state.

The more obvious benefits of yoga are strength, flexibility, stamina, balance, and a sense of vitality and well-being. One may find it easier to deal with everyday challenges and stresses with poise and equanimity.

Please browse through our web site and get to know us. You will meet our students and teachers, learn more about our classes and workshops, and gain some insight into the beauty, joy and enriching experience that is yoga.
